Akatsuki Denkou SenkiThe new year starts with a lot of doujin-related news from Dotsu, while everyone tries to recover from the post-Comiket 69 hangover. Heisei Democracy has a little photo report of the event, by the way. If you'd rather read about it in japanese, Akibablog and Atelier D have their own entries on the same subject.

Subtle Style had a demo version of Akatsuki Denkou Senki available at Comiket 69, and they uploaded a very promising video of the game. As mentioned before on ic, Akatsuki Denkou Senki is the much awaited sequel to Akatsuki Shisei Ichikou, one of the most acclaimed fighting games of the doujin scene. The original CD release from 2003 only had three characters, but Subtle Style then kept releasing new patches over the years with a number of interesting character additions. One can assume Akatsuki Denkou Senki will evolve in a similar way. You can also get some nice combo footage of the first game on the same page I linked earlier (right under the first video) and even the good old demo version, if you scroll all the way down. Be aware that Subtle Style stresses that they do not approve multiple downloads and that they have specific mirrors for foreigners.

Meanwhile, Freegame Arena has published their eighth "free game first prize" annual contest, celebrating the most successful games on the website (depending on the number of downloads and positive comments). Note that the game doesn't have to date from the current year, as 2005's podium shows well. This year's grand winner Silfade Gensoutan, released last september, finished just in front of Silfade Kenbunroku, from the same author Smoking Wolf, who was the grand winner in 2003. Doujin fans' darling Doukutsu Monogatari also gets mentioned, and finishes as the most popular action game of the year.

In other news, Nijigen Koubou announced the 2D fighting game Mai Hime Denshou, whereas dungeon RPGs Dungeon Eternal Ver.2 and Seima Youkutsu Den both have new demo versions. Little Space Software has a new website and unveiled the 2006 release of Revival Zephyr (a sequel to their first shooter from 1997), and there are new patches for the complete versions of Raiden Sphere Second and Comiket 69's Gunners Heart.
