winkylena.jpgWinkysoft, if you don't know, is most famous (but not too widely known) for handling the development of the Super Robot Wars series. They've been around since 1983, but kept a rather low profile. Very few games are released with their name actually on it, though they were responsible for the Zone of Enders GBA oddity. Their most notable original title is Rayblade, a strategy RPG for the playstation, which has the most awesomely cheesy intro ever (Ruliweb has it but I lost my login and can't search - HELP!).

The sequel, Rayblade II, has been in the works for at least five years now, and is planned for the PS2. I figured Winkysoft was dead, and the game was scrapped, but in my random wanderings, I came across a renewed Winkysoft site. It was definitely renewed within the last three months. There's not a lot of new info there - almost none! But the one thing it does say is that Winkysoft visited the "Tokyo Contents Fair" (it's actually the Tokyo Contents Market) in october, and displayed Rayblade: Distance of Dreams, which I can only assume is the reincarnation of Rayblade II. So this Tokyo Contents Market thing is virtually unknown in most parts, with a site down for maintenance, and no entry in the wayback machine - even though it's gone on for a number of years, and does have a game area. The last info I can find about Rayblade on Game Watch is about a T-shirt. All this by way of saying - another odd company from the past has become semi-unearthed. Anyone with information on Distance of Dreams is encouraged to write in.
