sonicrushe3.jpgThe Sonic fan community never sleeps (and considering the junk they keep endorsing, I'm not sure how they could), so it's not surprising that they've opened up a prototype to see how it ticks again. This one is the 2005 build of Sonic Rush from E3, and it's notable for the music: while the finished product shipped with Hideki Naganuma's funky J-Pop stylings the prototype was backed by a more traditional BGM, much in the style of the original Mega Drive series.

Naganuma's soundtrack dropped a jaw or two, but there's always been critical debate as to how well it fit the game (personally? I was sold as soon as I heard Malcolm X being sampled in the game over jingle). It's interesting to imagine what might have been, especially as all signs seem to point to this being the last Sonic of any real quality for quite a while.

Go to Sonic Cult for more info, just keep your arms and legs inside the car at all times. They're a little... invested. They've stripped the soundtrack out over there, so feel free to grab that, if you're interested.
