This is probably the best japan-related interview I've ever done - not in particular because of anything I did differently, but simply because the subject was actually willing to answer my questions. The interviewee was ray nakazato, president of Feelplus, which is currently working with sakaguchi on Lost Odyssey. There's just a huge dump of information in here, said plainly, which if any PR person for any japanese game company were in on, would've stopped at about the second word.
As a preview: Yes, mikami left Capcom completely for Seeds. Game Republic's okamoto was working on a cancelled project for the 360. panzer dragoon director yukio futatsugi is not doing creative work, mostly checking deliverables. Game companies in japan are disappointed with the sales of the PS3. Ex-squenix director matsuno is talking to sakaguchi. Losy Odyssey was going badly for several months, and there are details of what they had to cut, and how the combat system works. With the glut of information he dished out, I started to ask him any question I could think of about the japanese industry. Basically - you might want to read it. (image stolen from these guys)
