Bashō’s Oku no Hosomichi (aka The Narrow Way to the Deep North), a travel account sprinkled with haiku poetry, is one of the most famous works of classical Japanese literature. In 2006, Poplar Publishing presented it in a new format with “Enpitsu de Oku no Hosomichi” (The Narrow Way to the Deep North by Pencil). Printed in a light gray font, the book invited readers to trace over the whole Edo-period title. It quickly reached popular acclaim and sold more than one million copies.
Now Success announced Enpitsu de Oku no Hosomichi DS. Besides tracing the kanji on the touch-screen, the game will feature readings by actor Nakamura Tōru, thematic background sounds and scenery pictures. Literature games are in these days, it seems. Out on May 31 for 3990 yen.
