elona.jpgElona is a very well-made freeware 2D roguelike RPG that has been steadily gaining in popularity recently. The game features a character development system similar to ADOM, as well as randomly generated quests and dungeons, a wide variety of life skills such as performance, fishing, cooking, mining, and above average graphics, music, and sound effects. The game interface is simple yet complete with most of the features that players have come to expect from classic roguelike games. The game has recently added some online features too, but it is currently limited to sending and receiving of messages.

The author, Rfish, has started porting the game into English recently, and you can switch the language to English through the menu in the game, but currently the bulk of the game is still in Japanese. The translation appears to also be a one man job by the author, who seems to be quite proficient in English.

If you try to play the game and it keeps freezing, go to network settings in the game and turn everything off.
