Yoshifumi Hashimoto is the producer at Marvelous who is in charge of Oboro Muramasa Youtouden, the upcoming Wii game from Vanillaware (Odin Sphere, GrimGrimoire). I mostly spoke with him about Vanillaware's techniques, how much it costs to make 2D games these days, and things of that nature. Rather nice information in there if you're into the style. Some of it is a bit obvious, and I was baiting him to say certain things, but it's still worth hearing from a known source:
"It's harder now to make 2D-graphics games. Before, everything was 2D, so you had enough people who were actually specialized in making 2D characters. But now, everything is 3D. So now, to find a good team that can make 2D games, even if you have better technology and more RAM or whatever, it's really hard now."
