From Software is publishing a Silicon Studio-developed PlayStation 3 exclusive action RPG with a unique visual twist. Based around the 2D classics of old, this takes the pixel based-glory and translates it literally into 3D. Entitled 3D Dot Games Heroes, the game uses voxels to depict the game world, but this isn't a console first, as some have assumed, as the Saturn shooter Amok did it way back in 1996. That said, the stylistic approach that Silicon has taken with this contemporary effort is nonetheless rather wonderful. For those not familiar with Silicon, they're a Japanese middleware and games development studio who recently made the PSP puzzle game Onore no Shinzuru Michi wo Yuke (also published by From Software). The release for 3D Dot Game Heroes has been set for Japan sometime this November with no word of a Western release as yet.
