Thus far, Mega Enterprise has provided the only real bit of news we weren’t expecting. There was a nice Metal Slug Online poster on the side of their kiosk as Eric-Jon and I passed by. He took a picture, while I worked on the PR lady. She was not a developer, she said, so could not supply much information. She asked if we had played Metal Slug before. We certainly had! Had we played it on the PC? Probably not, huh.
My response was that while we had not, we were aware that they had just put out a compilation of Metal Slug 1, 2, X, and 3, and a solo release of 4. She was taken aback, with the usual "wait, you know who we are already?" look that Korean game companies tend to get when you recognise them. It’s really a shame how they’ve come to expect going unnoticed in the industry.
Regardless, we pumped her for what info we could. The game is two months into development, with a planned beta in December. The beta will be only for Korea at the beginning, but will open to the West two to three months later.
Based on the visual info from the poster, we see that Marco is back, along with Fio and Eri. They've also brought in the grey-haired fellow from Metal Slug 4 (developed by Megaking/Mega Enterprises, if you recall), and a strange fellow who resembles a general. His purpose/objective is currently unknown.
In addition to Metal Slug Online (we will gather more information on this soon), they also showed fliers for their cellphone games: Erotic Actress Maker, Diet Zzang!, ZWEI!!, Metal Slug, and "Fatal Fury" (the image shown is clearly Mark of the Wolves). These look quite excellent, truth be told, although we're only seeing static images.
They’re also developing an online game portal called Tenguri. This is a matching service for P2P net play. The examples they gave for possible games were Metal Slug, Last Blade, King of Fighters, Samurai Shodown.
General characteristics of the service (from the flier):
- Easy-to-use and simple interfaced PSP fighting match service
- Real time ranking service
- Online game tournament(s)
- Chatting/guild/clan community service
- Various avatars/game items
Another item of note: Mega's slogan is now A Company That Creates "FUN". And the quotation marks are theirs, not mine. Curious!! We thought about asking them for some DNA samples of our favorite Korean pop stars (it’s a service they provide, you know), but we sort of thought they’d rather keep it.
brandon sheffield's DNA is not for sale... anymore
