Well, since we finally arrived in gay porn fairyland, the usual cliché characters appear shortly after that first sex scene with the hero. Oh no, actually they don’t; they would if the gay erotic drawing scene were as developed as the straight one. As you know, in porn a cliché is not a bad thing, but quite the opposite, since, like the unwritten rules I was talking about, it allows the game to spend less time on expository scenes and jump faster in the action. In straight doujin games and comics, the successful clichés grow, inbreed with other clichés again and again, until they create their own niche market that can in turn become a market for games with such tremendous concepts as "the sudden discovery that the hero has 12 sisters", "a school for girls were the uniform is a maid apron with no clothes under it" or "a terrible plague has spread through the world that makes every woman want to urinate; and when they refrain themselves, the disease only leave them three solutions, having sex, drink sperm or pee themselves; and most of the time, all three things happen at the same time". To widen the gap between porn and reality even more, many games are set in a fantasy universe, the kind of universe where a female ninja that uses her own breasts as nunchakus becomes nearly not totally improbable (and the game UGCP made after ietate, Bokuto mahôno koibito, is set in such a universe). It’s only a matter of time before someone makes a game where the heroin is a maid robot, childhood friend in the same class as the hero, and both used to be lovers before this life; but the girl is extremely ill and she can only rely on the hero; and she would have to be crippled; and blind; and hemophiliac; and she would have Alzheimer; and she would be from another planet; but in the end the hero discovers she might have been a ghost from the beginning. Oh, what am I talking about; I’m sure that game already exists somewhere.
Other games prefer a more realistic universe (if "realistic universe" means something like "a place where they have to hire a police force entirely composed of girls dressed in an old school bath suit" or "some place where a serial rapist threatens his victims to reveal to everyone they are French if they ever try to resist, and it actually works"). But even when the events try harder to appear to take place in our world, you know you are still in fantasy land, if only because the hero (meaning the player, meaning you) is not ugly and is able to score girls. Ugh, no, wait, I mean "you are still in fantasy land because you recognize the same cliché character you are used to seeing in porn", sorry. Since concepts set in stone like the meganekko <Glasses-girl: traditional shy character who does anything you say, but is terribly ashamed of it. –B> have yet to develop in the world of gay porn, the writer of ietate had to create them from basic simple concepts, which means at the same time more work and more freedom and novelty. While some remain quite archetypal, other characters stand out quite clearly.
- Hideki, the hero, is the "dumb nice guy" (normal hero, only more stupid). What is interesting here (but not particular to ietate) is that not only does he have a default name, but he also has a face. While you’re supposed to play as Hideki and fuck by proxy with all the other characters, Hideki, being also a man, is as much potential gay masturbation material as any other character of the game; which means he takes as much place in the CG as his partners. While most straight porn game heroes are reduced to a pair of hands and a censored penis to allow more identification freedom to the player, Hideki has at least as much existence as any other character of the game, up to the point some that players would have rather spend time with him than the others.
- His boss is the "fat dirty hairy sex addict fatherly figure" (?)
- Senzô is the "fatter, dirtier, hairier character". He has a lot in common with gorillas; he is also 100% bottom. <Brandon’s note: for those of you who don’t live in San Francisco or France, thus automatically knowing every gay term as well as you know your own name: a ‘bottom’ is the sex partner on the receiving end of things.>
- Naoki, another construction worker, is the "young muscular active big brother figure". Most importantly, he is the NON GAY character (more on this later).
- Masato is a sailor [insert Shenmue joke here]. He is also muscular, hairy and dirty, and his distinctive attribute is that he wears a fundoshi. Also, he is the most sex-crazed character of the game and has an enormous virile attribute to go along with his enormous drive. Maybe I should remind you we are in gay porn world here, and if you are not familiar with the works of Tom of Finland, think about something of elephantine proportions and you won’t be far away from truth. Also, I know Japanese people usually don’t have a lot of hair, so it’s difficult for them to find a model to understand where those cute tiny things appear on a head, but I think someone should tell them that NO HUMAN BEING EVER GROWS FACIAL HAIR THERE.

- Yoshimi is the "shy intellectual with glasses". He looks extremely tame when you meet him in the game, but don’t laugh at him, he has to carry around a sexual organ even bigger than Masato’s, and that alone could give you complexes for the rest of your life. I mean, we’re talking of a weapon of mass destruction here. When this guy gets an erection, people on Mars increase the budget of their army to protect themselves from any aggressive ejaculation. I couldn’t put a picture of him here, because censoring this thing would have meant to leave only a tiny square of 32 pixels in the corner uncovered.
- Osamu is the widower for whom the house is build. He is the "intellectual fatherly figure" and at the same time a master of masochistic tendencies. In a way, he is the heroin of the game.
I think you may have trouble understanding what is happening in this picture, but don’t worry, it’s actually quite simple. You see, the hero is actually drunk, and Osamu is helping him to go back to the house. Then, somehow, Hideki falls on Osamu, who falls back, and Hideki stands up by inadvertently stamping with all his weight on Osamu’s genitals. It’s just a huge misunderstanding and there is nothing to be afraid of.
Also, the pain is giving Osamu an erection.
- Takeshi is his first son, and the "school uniform top aggressive muscular younger brother". Actually, he is the most normal of all the characters, and (or because?) he only gets one real sex sequence. <a top is the opposite of a bottom, of course –B>
- Finally, Taku is his little brother, the shota - for the pedophiles. The creators of the game hate shota characters, and Taku makes a very poor one. But nobody is going to blame them for that; at least I know I won’t.
The game covers a fairly wide spectrum of gay fantasies, with the notable exception of effeminate men. The message is clear: if you want fags, play yaoi games! Nearly all of the characters have at least one defining sexual attribute, the kind of detail that can develop in ten years to real niche markets. I can’t wait for the game where I will discover I have 10 brothers when I used to have only 5, and I have to discover which ones appeared all of a sudden; or the one where I will become a volley ball teacher for young non-gay men whose wives just got an abortion.
After the characters are introduced in various ways, the game begins with fairly conventional situations, you learn what the guy you are aiming for likes, try to get closer to him, and eventually fuck him as much as possible. After the first scene with the boss when both characters discover that they could be more than just coworkers, the game quickly heats up to a nearly nonstop orgy during the first month and a half, as though it were trying to cover each subject as fast as possible, as if it wanted to keep the end of the game for some higher purpose.
And as matter of fact, the third month of the game has nearly no sex scenes when compared to the two other months. There is one gigantic parade of horror concentrated on one day of September, but it appears only if you tried to score Osamu, the masochistic character (you won’t get any sex scenes with him until that day where hell breaks loose, and this includes the dog).
The Masochistic play in this game is some of the heaviest I’ve ever seen in my entire life.
